There were several things I liked about the Times: their business coverage, their feature articles, their Science Times. Those things kept me in...but as a conservative (since 1976) there was just soooo much I could take (and I lived in NYC for all those years) and I finally cancelled.
They really tried to keep me in with many discount inducements. They failed.
My favorite calls (now ended due to the no phone solicitation law in Indiana) was when they used to call us and try to get us to subscribe.
When I got the call, I would give 5 or 6 reasons why I had no interest.
My husband, however, would simply say "Why in the HELL would I want to subscribe to your stupid paper?" and then hang up.
