Those observations have been part of the nine-year legal battle between researchers and Northwest Indian tribes. I smell casino competition!

It'll be interesting to see how the PC crowd handles Kennewick Man, caucasian as he apparently was. I'm betting on the whole thing getting buried. Can't upset the applecart on the racial spoils system at this late date, now can we?

So, now it looks like the "Native Americans" may have been white folks who were violently disposessed from their land by marauding Asian hordes.

It's about time. Doug Owsley is just about the best forensic anthropologist we have. If he believes the skeleton to be Caucasian then you can be sure it is. What he will be ALLOWED to say and keep his job at the Smithsonian is another matter.

Somebody, somewhere must be filing a reparations claim over this.

Blam sent me to a website which has an exceptionally well do explanation of some of the possibilities of the distribution of modern man. Included is an explanation for how "Caucasion" peoples might have journeyed via Asia to America about 12,000 years ago. It shows a multiple entry with people from the Borneo / Southeast Asian area passing into America 25,000 years ago before the last Global Maximum Ice Age and with the middle Asian ancestors of Europeans entering America Just following the Ice Age. It can be found at:

Just because Kennewick Man and the Ainu have features similar to Europeans, it doesn't mean that they are genetically European. In fact, the Ainu are genetically quite Asian even though they superficially look pretty European. Given that mitochondrial DNA markers that are likely European have been found in American Indians, it's likely that there was some sort of European genetic contribution but Kennewick Man is not necessarily it.

Time the Indians got a job and stop living in the past.
