When I sing "Eastbound Freight Train" all the hobos start running for the boxcarsHOBOS??????? LOL!!!!!! Whooooooooooo boy. THAT'S a word I haven't heard in a long time! I wonder how many of our kids even know the word...

Actually Hobos are still around. They have a national organization, a website and everything. They even have a national hobo convention every year.

I didn't ride them long enough to be a full-blown, cross-country hobo, but I've slept in a boxcar or two.<p.
Back in the mid-'30's 'me and my brudders' (obligiatory Chicago accent) used to hop the slow-moving freights heading to the South Water Market on the south side. Uhhh.... the watermelon cars were our favorite. And of course, we just sat there and looked at all those melons and didn't never ever touch a one of them, right?
