This article brings up an interesting point...if the US of A makes a turn for the Left or goes down the crapper in the coming years, perhaps some states would secede?

Exactly. An independent Alberta would be a positive influence on the US, either shape up or lose a handful of US states as well. As they would welcome other provinces, they would probably also welcome Montana, Idaho, western WA, Wyoming, even maybe Utah. While that would give D's the upper hand on the national scene, it would also generate a rather nice place to move to, to escape liberals.
