Thanks for the ping, C&S!

Hereyahgo, G-K, wrap yah prejudices around this little number. [HeHeHe]

More seriously, though -- and I have not developed any lately-come affection for the Limeys nor yet for any other whining dead and decadent Euro-peon -- Doctor Singh's assertions are headed in the Right direction!

And now, talking about influences upon people's passages through life, I'm off down the [Aussie] road to have a nice yummy tosai or two for me lunch!

Blessings -- Brian

"I find it amusing that most of the anti British posts (at the Eton exhibit) come from "Indians" living abroad"
Does it occur to people that there is a large Overseas Indian community whose per capita Internet use, education is far higher than the avg Indian and thus maybe are over represented online.. ?

" I think it would be fair to say most of them would not be there if it was not for the British installing an educational system"
Yes and it would also be fair to say that if the british had kept their ass where it belonged ie on the island, Indians would be so better off that they would never have to leavetheir country.

" As for the British dividing India, I don't recall an English man devising the caste system"
No never. The british treated Indians, Africans and white anglo saxons with the same dignity always isnt it?

"In fact the Hindus and Muslims were never more united under the British."
In face of a greater evil of course..

"balance and perspective offered by the passage of time and the benefit of hindsight, it is possible for an Indian prime minister to assert that India's experience with Britain had its beneficial consequences too."
He has gone there at a time the British are in trouble and so would say flattering things.. If he wants to stay PM he needs to get a reality check. Already tongues are wagging in India.

"an assertion by Indians of their "natural right to self-governance" than an outright rejection of the "British claim to good governance."
Thats actually false. The whole country and the political leadership including Gandhi definitely questioned the British claim to good governance.

Well said dude!

Brian, check it out post #43. Cant put it any better.

And dont take too seriously what our politicians (like this ol' fogy says). Our politicians always says stuff that people like to hear......especially if they happen to be our host. Advani had it(when he was in Pakistan) that Jinnah was a "secular". (Secular? Yeah thats why 20 million Hindus were clensed out of Pakistan.) Dont rely on the words of politicians lest you be mislead by their sweet words.

And moral of the story: (As Arjun so eloquently puts it) Keep your @ss where it should be ;)

Possible. But the nazi like cruelty of the British should not be forgotten. They effectively starved to death millions every year they ruled India.

Not Nazi like cruelty -- face facts taht the Brits cannot be compared to the Nazis except for a few sparse examples like General Dyer, the Bengal famine etc. They didn't starve millions EVERY year. Note that.
