Poverty does not cause terrorism. Poor people exist all over the world, even here in the U.S. The "root causes" of terrorism are twofold. One is oppressive regimes like the Taliban, Saddam Hussein's Iraq, Syria's dictators, and the Mullahs of Iran. The other is fanatic Islamism that preaches hatred for "the infidels". These two combined caused the current terrorist threat, which is why Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom are such critical parts of our effort against terrorism.
As long as one madrassa remains open, they haven't done enough. (Oh, and they have to denounce everything the madrassas have taught over the years.)
