Honestly, BHT was open to libel there and don't think for a moment those lawyers didn't scare some sense into her and her team. She made statements that required PROOF, not emotion. She also alienated good people who have supported her in Aruba. It's a good thing she realized she was speaking out of frustration and recanted for the most part. We have crimes like that here in the US on occasion, tourists who come and get mugged in the city, killed, etc. I know we would not like it if a family member of a victim came in from elsewhere and ragged on our country and its system, whether justified or not (yes, her comments were mostly directed at the released boys, but implied that they were getting away with it by the authorities and demanded other countries back her up - that's just too much). That's just human nature and common sense everywhere in the world, not just Aruba or here.

oh brother! Under who's law was she open to libel? Dutch law? Are you certain they even have libel? Or is that our concept? Don't bother responding, you're more like an annoying fly with your comments and put downs to other posters! Shoo!

She didn't apologize to the criminals, so she must not have been too scared. LOL! Obstruction of justice, and lying to investigators makes them criminals.

Since we've gotten enough of an education on Aruban law to know that it differs from US law, does anyone know what the laws are regarding slander or libel in Aruba? Slander is the spoken word and libel is the written word in the US - I'm wondering if it is similar in Aruba and, if so, has Beth or anyone in her family been slandered or libeled (not that it would matter to them as their objective is finding Natalee).

Just curious about Aruban law....TIA!
