Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Dredson and other countries. We were at war with both Japan and Germany. Both countries were legitimate targets in that there respective governments had declared war on us. The Bombing of targets by us was to disrupt there war making caperbilities, by the targeting of the industries. Yes there was a aspect of terror in the targeting of a number of cities. To break the will of both the Japanese and German people. To frighten them from there homes and so hinder both countries war making capabilities by frightening or killing key skilled workers.

By the way it didn't work to well.

This act was carried out like other acts by a loose affiliation of Terrorist organistions which happen to be Islamic.

These terrorist like most other terrorist care not for human life, christain, Muslim Jewish, all they care about is taking life. So targeting a city because it is predomintely muslim will have no effect on them whats so ever. We Bombed German cities on German soil Killing German Civilians who were working to maintain the German War effort, making them legitimate targets. Bombing Damascus and killing thousands of people who are not taking part in the war, not producing goods or munitions to fuel that war, where there is no concentrated civilian effort to fight the war.

To win this war u go after the terrorists.

Of course from the Nazie point of view both Himmler and Heidrich would of agreed with you, and Stalin and Saddam. Fight Terror with terror.

Never worked failed on the eastern Front, in 2 years of brutal Nazi rule of wiping out whole villages for the death of a single German, they turned a welcoming population into one determined to fight the Germans.

I respect you for your military experience, and knowledge of the European theater of WWII.

In my post I had in mind the two nukes, used to pursuade the Fanatical Japanese to surrender. It worked, and ALSO saved many lives, of allied forces AND Japanese civilians.

Truman received calculations of losses on both sides, of a continued conventional war and landing on Japan's main islands.

By claiming we have no "legitimate target" is to play into the strategy of this enemy. They hide behind that very fact--a calculation we would not inflict massive attacks on any of the nations, or their principle cities.

It is their strategy to wear down our resolve, and they expect us to observe all manner of "gentlemens' warfare."

That is the nub of my point of view. Who is the enemy.

All we have a very loose coalition of terrorist groups spread all over the world with no real link to a country or aim other than that to cause max terror. They claim to me carrying out these acts in the name of Islam does not make it true.

I am part Irish, did that make me a legitimate target for retribution when members of the IRA blew up targets in Britain killing civilians.

Japanese and German Civilians cities and such like were legitimate targets in that all played a part in the axis war machines.

The people u want to bomb are not part of this war they being Islamic does not mean they are terrorists supporters or even part of the terrorist war machine.

Finally Meeting terror with terror has not worked in the past Eastern Front, Yugoslavia to name a few countries.

Most bombs have gone of in Islamic countries, the terrorists have not minded in fact have taken pleasure in killing fellow Muslims. So they would not care how many we kill in retaliation.
