I'm still trying to figure out what we're supposed to be "guilty" of. The Communist bloc (with its one party states, "great leaders," cults of personality, militarism, oom-pah bands, goose-stepping soldiers, flags and banners everywhere, work camps, and outlawing of all opposition) much more resembled Nazi Germany than we ever did, yet they emerged from that conflict arrogant in their "rigteousness" as the ultimate anti-Fascists while our anti-Communism was decried (by them and by our own Left) as Hitlerism reborn. How did America go from savior of the world to the "successor to Nazi Germany?" Even our defeat of Hitler's Japanese allies is considered a "war crime" by "anti-fascists" and our own self-haters!
Our transition from righteous liberators of the world to Hilter's alleged successors is absolutely beyond belief. How did the Left manage to pull this off? How did World War II become the only "good war" in history primarily because (as Pat Buchanan would agree) the West waged it against itself?
All that being said, I must admit to you to being opposed to torture on principal. In addition to being inherently immoral, it doesn't work for the simple reason that if you promise someone that you'll stop hurting him if he says what you want him to say, he'll say anything you want him to.
