I'm very pessimistic. We should have turned Mecca into a parking lot after 9/11 but we didn't. Instead we heard speech after speech about what a great religion islam was and how tolerant we were of it. Almost four years after what have we done? True, we've removed Hussein (mach shemo), but aside from frisking little old ladies at airports and refusing to "discriminate" against "the other," what have we done?
All we do is talk talk talk. We cry, we suffer nobly, we rededicate ourselves to a multiculturalism that would outlaw criticism of islam even as it mercilessly attacks the "host religion" for its "bigotry."
Can you imagine what the world would look like today if we had had this attitide back during World War II? How did the victorious West come away from that conflict burdened with all the guilt of the vanquished foe, even as its twin Communist brother came out full of self-righteousness?
I don't understand it, but for some reason all the guilt of the Axis was transferred to the non-Communist allies of that war, despite the fact that we had lost thousands upon thousands of men destroying it. To this day we pat ourselves on the back for winning the war against Germany and immediately switch to hand-wringing over defeating the Japanese and for being suspicious of the poor innocent little Commies during the ensuing "Cold War."
Ever since World War II the West (which defeated the Nazis) has borne the guilt of Hitler (mach shemo!). Instead of learning of the importance of defeating a deadly enemy we have instead spent all our time fretting over a "domestic Hitlerism" in the form of anti-Communism and "bigotry" against "the other." What must our sainted dead of that war think of us as they look down at us and see us celebrating our victory in World War II when the only "lesson" we have learned is that we are always wrong and "the other" is always right?
Gad. You'd think at least we'd have some moles buried deep within the enemy to get the job done without implicating us. We don't seem to intend to ever do anything but react, suffer, and remain true to the bizarre "lesson" we "learned" from the Second World War!!!
We're all Londoners Today.
