Are we saying men would always have bedded a women before marriage in the past or for a one night stand? The only thing that has changed in the present is that women no longer stop men, and will have sex with them?

Isn't it more a result of men and women having this desire these days?

That's almost exactly what I am saying, except I would temper it by saying 'fewer' women no longer stop men, rather than saying 'women no longer stop men.'
