I think that any nominee who doesn't support Roe v Wade will be bitterly opposed. SCOTUS nominations and confirmations have become a one-issue battle. This is what happens when judges enter the realm of politics and usurp the funcitons of other branches -- they subject their branch to political considerations.

I agree completely. Look at Bork, he was also Solicitor General and acting Attorney General back in the 70's. Look what they did to him.
But, one of the reasons I think Ted Olsen might be a good choice is that because his wife Barbara was killed on the plane that hit the Pentagon on 9/11, the RATS may be a little less likely to do to him what they did to Bork.
