nobody in the country cares right now. It's July 4 weekend.

Unfortunately, I don't think I've ever seen a more ironic, more true or more tragic statement all rolled into one. I don't know whether to congratulate you or weep for the nation.

I didn't mean it that way. There's nothing wrong with celebrating July 4 and forgetting about politics for now. We only focus on this nomination today because we are junkies.

Once the nomination is made, their will be LOTS of attention on the confirmation battle. There was for both Thomas and Bork. People DO care, but they aren't always paying attention when nothing is going on.

O'Connor was an Arizona state senator?

Okay, I demand an official ban be placed on anyone from Arizona being considered for any high office. They seem to have a "Maverick" complex.

It's true here in Philly where only Live 8 is on the agenda. Oh, I forgot the hero of all of us--the highly-educated Tom Loser, I mean Cruise (high school graduate or did he make it?)isn't his movie opening this week? No doubt he's screaming over Sanda O'Connor daring to resign today and steal his thunder. Not a pretty sight.

But then Philly is only interested in crooked politics.
