Great fourth of July! Of course, I would lay even odds that the vacancy will remain open till Hillary or McCain's "first term".

I haven't done the personal research necessary to independently confirm his positions, but other objections are that he is anti-rkba, pro-affirmative action, and also a member of La Raza.

A confirmation battle in this case will be quite different, though. I don't have any faith in the GOP senators coming to the plate here, but I am very intrigued by a long, drawn-out confirmation battle that extends through the summer and never gets resolved. Unlike the other Federal judicial appointees, this one can potentially result in the Supreme Court starting its next term with only eight justices. There'll be a whole lot of 4-4 decisions if that's the case, and then there's a possibility that another seat on the court is vacated in the meantime.

Fox got this one first, did it not?
Impressive.

Ted Olsen, first. Judge Judy!
To: cajungirl
My impression is that he is not real conservative and he was very tongue tied during his confirmation and looked uncomfortable. I would like to see a confident, gutsy person that is not afraid to follow the Constitution.
To: bitt
How about nominating Orin Hatch? He's a lawyer isn't he ????? :)

To me all rights are built upon to right to keep and bare arms. He does not believe that. He is worried about his brother or something that is a SWAT agent. The kind of person that will be kicking your door in looking for the guns that Gonzales and 4 other supremes banned. They are other issues that he's squishy on too.

Watch the rats go apoplectic....they want Bush to confer with them on his picks....to make the confirmation run more smoothly, of course!
To: bitt
I love the guy too but would rather see Brown get the nomination. Love to see the liberal go after her.

Bill Kristol predicted this last week. I just hate it when he's right.
CNN' list of picks: Alberto Gonzales Attorney General, and current judges Lutig, Wilkinson, Alito, Garza,
Joe Johns CNN reporter said this isn't really a surprise, then CNN's resident jerk, Jeffrey Toobin, calls it an epic moment!

My biggest fear: Bush, in the spirit of the new-tone, nominates liberals and moderates. Can't anger the Beltway crowd, you know...

Ted Olsen would be a great choice and the Dumbocrats would look mighty bad if they tried to oppose him after he lost his wife on Sept.11.
