Saw War of the Worlds last night. Did anybody else notice the cool cameo appearance, right at the end, by...Gene Barry? He played Dr. Clayton Forrester, the hero of George Pal's version of the story. He was part of the group standing on the steps in the house in Boston--the white-haired guy on the left. He must be 80-something, but he looked pretty good.
I may be wrong, but if I am, I'm damn close........ at 62 what can you expect.
I hear Ann Robinson, his co-star in the '53 version, is also in that same scene. Waiting for the crowds to die down a bit before seeing the new one. The original flick scared the hell out of me as a kid. Wouldn't mind that feeling again.
does Dakota seem different at the end of the movie? I wonder if Cruise tried to convert her during filming?
I knew about the Earp connection, but not the rest. Interesting!
Gene Barry is a star that dates back to the 1940's,
on TV he was the Chief of Detectives in "Burke's Law" and the magazine publisher on "The Name of the Game".
Also was the star of the 1950's version of "War of the Worlds".
Yeah, he was quite a character. He also worked with Tex Rickard, one of the pioneer boxing promoters and the guy behind Jack Dempsey's public relations effort. Masterson was actually a sportswriter for many years, in Denver and later in NYC, which is where TR appointed him deputy marshal.
Capt -- the name of the magazine he was supposed to publish on "Name" was "People." This was a good 5-10 years before the real item came along.
He wore a cane and Derby hat...they called him Bat....Bat Mastersonnnnnnnn
You deserve the 50 answers you're going to get to this question, since the answer was in the post. :~D
And it wasn't like the post was too ~long~ to read either ;~D
Note he wears his holster front ways which is the way Masterson wore his gun I believe. He also carried a derringer.
I remember they used to sell a Bat Masterson cap gun set. I had the Roy Rogers version.
Take the 405 to the Ventura Freeway. Take the Ventura Freeway to the Hollywood Freeway. Take the Hollywood Freeway to the Slausen Cutoff. Get out of the car and cut off your Slausen....
It's Burke's Law!
But in that sultry voice ;)
I had a Lone Ranger cap gun, but Bat Masterson was also a favorite show. I like Roy as well except when he sang.
