Even Pittsburgh loses population. So does Philly (which is pretty high on the "nastiest cities" list). I am surprised the decline is that small. I expected it to be much more rapid.

Salt Lake City is that small? Really?

According to the Census Bureau it is... I think you're right on Minneapolis, but I did some digging on the Census website... (because now I'm curious)...
Minneapolis' metro area (including St. Paul) was about 2.96 million in 2000. San Antonio's was just over 1.7 million... however, if you include Austin (1.25 million) then the metro areas are roughly the same. San Antonio and Austin's downtowns are roughly 75 miles apart, but in the next 20-30 years they'll most likely merge into 1 huge metro area.

I don't mean to sound petty, but Duncan looks like such a thoughtful man that I expected something more diplomatic, even if not Solomonic.

It is not the easiest thing to do in such a short time. I think he did great. He is a classy guy and living in this city I know the love he has for it, the community and the fans. His wife is due with their first child any day now.

Bigger than Detroit. And it won't be long before they are making more motor vehicles, as well.

there's only about 10000 abandoned dwellings in Detroit city limits. they should provide good kindling.

He and Andy G are definitely separated at birth!

I was tempted to post pics of them side by side all night, but I was too busy watching the game. :-)

Yeah. Minn. & St. Paul and the suburbs are genuinely the same city geographically. Including Austin with SA makes a little sense, but they are really distinct. It'd be like including Hartford in NYC. They're close enough that fans travel on occasion and it's close enough for TV, but the smaller city is far enough away to make travel a tad prohibitive.

Actually it's only the city of Detroit itself that is shrinking in population. The metropolitan area (including the 'burbs) is still growing but not by much. The Detroit metro area grew from 4.24 million in 1990 to 4.45 million in 2000.
BTW, Pittsburgh's metro area lost population (2.46 mil to 2.43 mil).

But Pittsburgh is actually becoming more livable with the decline in population (but don't tell the Pirates and Penguins). It was overcrowded during the steel era. It's an elderly town now and is settling to an equilibrium.

Did you see how excited Manu was, he reminded me of a little kid. He was soooo happy and he didn't mind showing it. I saw him jumping up and down at one time. He is the cutest guy and he is a hustler. He plays hard and with soooo much conviction. You gotta love him.

Yeah it makes sense to combine the Twin Cities into one metro area, just like Dallas-Ft. Worth. Austin & San Antonio are distinct (Austin is much more liberal & elitist, San Antonio more blue-collar) but they're closer than you think. Lots of people commute down I-35 from 1 city to the other every day, and there's talk of putting in a rail system to connect the 2 cities (someday)...

Texas is so big, even our "small towns" have over a million people.

I'll bet most folks in the US haven't even heard of the 4th largest city in the DFW Metroplex. And it's bigger than the state capitol cities of either Mississippi or Louisiana.

The numbers for New Orleans threw me, less than 500,000.

And I should know better, I was born a suburb of it. (I guess everyone is from the suburbs there.)

Oh yeah... he is just too cute!! He has SO much enthusiasm!

When we were on vacation at Disney we met a girl from Argentina who knew him from home.. apparently when they were younger and played on a tennis team together.. she said he's as nice in person as he seems on television..

His SBC commercial crack me up..
