Why they would lie for Joran may simply be due to who Joran's father is and that Joran's father may become a judge on the small island. Rumors were one of the brothers was/is a drug dealer. So maybe that was held over their heads.

Somebody on Fox earlier tonight said that now that PvdS has been arrested, others may feel they can talk freely without fear.
