At around 1:50 am the bros dropped Joran and Natalee off at the beach. At 2:30 or 2:40 Joran wanted to get out of there, or at least was unengaged enough from Natalee to make a call (what he said on that call we really don't know). Then at around 3:10 we have the record of him text messaging Deepak that he (Joran) had made it home.

This does not leave a lot of time on the beach with Natalee. Perhaps she passed out cold or died very quickly after they got there.

Who did take him home? Could he have walked home in 40 mins?

Could he have gotten home, told his father what happened (the poor Natalee dying of asphyxiation on vomit, or possibly another drug he had given her, or maybe even due to some rough treatment by Joran), and his father told him to stay home, that he would take care of this little problem and make sure it disappeared?

I tend to think that with no vehicle, Joran probably DID leave her at the beach. IF they really went to the beach.
