Maybe, just maybe, Joran doesn't like dad too much - reason for 'separate' quarters and made that statement to Mom because she knows he doesn't want to be under his control.

From what we learned about Joran, he was a wild child. I don't know what kind of a relationship he had with his Dad..but f Joran was out of control at home, can you imagine College? Ugghh.
