No ~ the '01 SVT Lightning has a little hotter engine ~ mine has (SuperChip)425hp.
In 1954 Herschel McGriff finished sixth in Winston Cup points.
In 1950 ~ One-hundred thirty-two cars, mostly U.S. sedans, were entered in the first event which covered nine legs over six days. Herschel McGriff of Portland, Oregon did not win a single leg but drove a smart race in his 1950 Oldsmobile 88 to outlast the hard chargers and win the first Mexican Road Race. Total time was 27 hours, 34 minutes at an average speed of 78.421 mph.
Yep ~ old Herschel could drive. :):)

I had a '50 Olds fastback in '55 with a J2 engine and a beefed up dual-range hydromatic tranny ~ it ran pretty good. :)

Very appropriate picture. I was just talking to one of my son's helpers about the race. He stood in line for a Harvick tar but had to settle for Ricky Rudd. He had the tar with him at work. I'll have to print out that picture for him.
WCG...he said he was standing in the spot where Jr hit the wall. Like I said, he is a Harvick fan. The other kid who went is a Jr fan but I didn't get to talk to him as he was at lunch...

I first met Herschel in 1951 or 52 at a car show in Fresno. He was with the Olds from the RR. I talked to him a few times when he ran here at Redwood Acres. My daughter still has a arm cast she was wearing one night in 69 or 70 and she had Herschel sign it..

Press conference tomorrow from "BRAIN" France. No idea what it's about.
Funny rumor that he will announce the fans can vote in a driver for the chase. LOL
I doubt it, there would be bedlam in North Carolina tomorrow night!!
I will see what I can find.
BTW did you guys discuss the Lucky Dog rule suddenly being reinstated at Sonoma without warning!!
This is what I found on Jayski...
CHANGES? to my surprise....the Lucky Dog / Lap Back rule was used at the road course at Infineon Raceway. In 2004, the rule was NOT used at the road course, however, I guess that changed and was not announced [for some reason]. No where did I see this mentioned before hand that is was changing, even Fox said there would be none, then started reporting it. Was told by some of the TV/Radio broadcasters, they were not told, it just 'happened'. I have the 'official' list and it is now posted.(6-27-2005)
Who got a lap back on each caution at Infineon Raceway: The Lucky Dog Pack: (and their finish)
this is unofficial and what I jotted down during the race
Caution 8: no lucky dog when 10 laps or less are left
Caution 7: #49-Schrader, 35th
Caution 6: #7-Gordon, 16th
Caution 5: #24-Gordon, 33rd
Caution 4: none, no idea why
Caution 3: none, #7-Gordon was supposed to be, but he pitted with lap leaders and lost it
Caution 2: #8-Earnhardt Jr., still 14 laps down, 42nd
Caution 1: #25-Vickers, 34th.(6-26-2005)

It's getting to be quite common. A new weekend, a new rule.
Unannounced, non-debateable, clueless at times, just plain stupid at others.

"BRAIN" is really cigarette man!
CM: Jr., It's time to turn to the dark force and drive the black #3.

Funny rumor that he will announce the fans can vote in a driver for the chase. My grandma, rest her soul, used to watch wrasslin. I thought she was nuts, in a good kinda way.
If this happens, and I continue to watch nascar, I'll then know it's a genetic flaw, and can't be helped.
To: glock rocks
My father used to watch wrestling. lol
Those guys were really a hoot!!
I'm hoping Brain has decided to buy a football team and he takes a hike!

...and then Speed screws the pooch on the Mikey and Friends Show. Nascar is going the way of New Country...all Hat and nothing under it.

We (his fans) are taking up a collection to buy him a REAL trophy. After all we were the ones that voted around the clock. lol As far as him being uncomfortable, he hates that sort of thing. (Most popular, sexiest etc.) He gets embarassed. He would rather talk racing and at this point would RATHER have decent equipment to drive, I'm sure. Buy him a decent cookie-cutter car :-)

"Buy him a decent cookie-cutter car :-)"I guess if every one of his fans chipped in we might be able to afford it :~)
Today's big deal press conference was just the usual Tuesday conference with Jeff Gordon, only Brain decided to attend this week I guess.
Here's a great tidbit from Smoke.......
JUST WONDERING BECAUSE YOU SAID EARLIER ABOUT YOUR REGIMEN WAS CHANNEL UP, CHANNEL DOWN
Stewart: And it will be the same regimen tonight. And the two days when I'm relaxing at home.
SOME PEOPLE DON'T CONSIDER RACE CAR DRIVERS ATHLETES
Stewart: I mean, anybody that doesn't think we're athletes-do we run all day long? No. Do we start on a three point stance and run into each other when the ball snaps? No. Well, we run into each other. But not because of the ball snapped. And they're running from dead stop, we've got a running start when we hit something. But, put those guys in a 130-140 degree car and we're pulling the G's we pull all day. It's a different fitness. Some are used to running a lot and jumping a lot, close to the ground and hitting each other. Some are used to swinging a bat. Runners run. Baseball players don't spend the majority of their time running. They stand in the batter's box and they go through infield and outfield practice.
I believe we're athletes. But it's just a different form. There's just different conditioning we have to get used to, to do what we do. We're pulling G's where those guys aren't pulling any G's. You take some of these guys that are the best athletes in the world and put them in a 140 degree car, and make them go around the race track for 20 laps and they'll be tired because they're not used to it. Just like we'd be tired to do their sport. Trust me, I'm not going to proclaim that I'm an athlete, but I'm going to proclaim that racers are athletes and I don't fit the athlete profile, I don't think.
I say that, but Refrigerator Perry was fat, too, and he was an athlete. So, yes I am an athlete. LOL
