U.S. senator, wind energy foe, owns property on Nantucket (Alexander joins w/Limousine Liberals)

U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., who in recent weeks has emerged as the wind energy industry's public enemy No. 1, is also a Nantucket property owner.

Alexander, who last month filed legislation that could hobble the emerging wind industry - including the proposed Nantucket Sound wind farm - bought a seaside plot on the eastern edge of Nantucket four years ago for $800,000.

Alexander and his wife own the half-acre property in Siasconset through a trust, according to a recent Senate filing. They have not built there and today the property is worth $1.25 million, according to the island's tax assessor.

While the property does not overlook the site of the proposed 130-turbine wind farm, supporters of the project say it calls into question why Alexander has taken such an interest in the wind industry.

This is in direct contrast to President Bush's proposed energy legislation, which is very pro-renewables. So much for hypocritical NIMBY attitudes being held mostly among Limousine Liberals like Kennedy and Kerry.

I voted for this guy before I moved back to MS, out of default. Bryant was my choice then.

Damned! My father has always wanted to drill a well offshore of Martha's Vinyard. I'm sure they'd oppose that too.

I was a Bryant supporter too and then held my nose and voted for LAMAR! in the general election. Lamar needs to go. He is worthless in Washington. If he runs again, I will not vote for him. What has Alexander done in Washington? There is a windmill company in Chattanooga and he should support the industry instead of trashing it. It would be good for his "other" state, Tennessee.
