My point was that we rarely hear about these events in the media unless the girl is white, pretty and accomplished.
I know.
But something has to make the story newsworthy. In the Holloway case, race didn't have anything to do with it, IMHO.
What gave this particular story it resonance is that the girl was young, and on a school graduation trip, making it a parent's worst nightmare.
For the first couple days, I never saw a picture of the girl, and no mention was ever made of her race. It was enough that she was young, on a school trip, and the chaperones had been ditched for a fling with tragic results.
