Tyson: 'I don't have the stomach for this'(Requiem for a Heavyweight)

WASHINGTON – Mike Tyson's career might have ended in shocking fashion Saturday night when he quit on the stool after taking a beating in a foul-filled sixth round against unheralded Kevin McBride.

Tyson lost for the third time in his last four fights, and once again he faded badly as the rounds went on before head butting McBride in a desperate attempt to end the fight in the sixth round.

"I can still get in shape but I don't think I have the fight and guts anymore," former undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson told Showtime PPV after the bout, while a chorus of boos filled the MCI Center.

"I don't have the stomach for this no more. I most likely won't fight again. I'm not going to disrespect the sport by losing to this caliber of fighter. I'm sorry to disappoint. I wish there was some way the fans could get some of their money back."

Tyson was pushed to the canvas when the round ended, his head stuck between the first and second ropes. He got up very slowly, wobbled back to his corner and sat on his stool.

When referee Joe Cortez came by to look at him, his corner told Cortez the fighter could not continue. Cortez then went over and raised McBride's hand in victory.

The 38-year-old Tyson was a huge favorite over McBride and won the early rounds. But as the fight went on, it was McBride landing the bigger punches as Tyson desperately tried to score a knockout.

You are so right.

I, for one, like Mike. I wish he would allow some good people in his life now. He has a good heart!

I wish him well.

Have a manager like King and a wife and mother in-law like he had...well you'd be broke too! They stole millions.

After Robin Givens and her mother took him to the cleaners in the divorce settlement, he hooked up with Don King. That's like going from the frying pan into the fire, financially. As to this being the end of the line for Tyson, I'm not so sure. He owes so much money he literally has to fight to keep the IRS and creditors off his back.

TYSON/GORE

Al's so fat and angry these days, that ought to make a great heavyweight fight and payday for both of them.

;-)

He could have gone down as one of the greatest fighters in the sport.

No, he never had the "character" to be the greatest.

A Tyson-Gore matchup would be intriguing. Al could creep up behind him and start shouting "Dingell-Norwood!" Then, if he lost the fight, he could demand recounts from the judges in Palm Beach county.

Exactly.

Tyson is a convicted rapist, has been banned from many communities, yet received a warm welcome in D.C., our national capital.

Thom Loverro wrote: "Remarkably, two judges - Tamye Jenkins and Stephen Rodos - had Mellow Mike ahead by 57-55 when the fight ended. They shouldn't be allowed to judge professional wrestling matches." (June 12, 2005, The Washington Times)

He was exactly that when he began his career. Years ago when he was first flush with success he did an interview where he admitted mugging old people before he became a boxer. After reading that I lost almost all interest in him except watching this train wreck from afar. Maybe this is the end of the line but his rap sheet is pretty long now.

Too late Mike, you did that years ago.

Tyson received 5 mil.
He owed the IRS 2 mil and of course nearly half of this purse will go to taxes so in essence you could have called this the "IRS Bout"
or how to get the Tax Monkey off your back...

He basically paid everyone he owed and probably a few of YKW in Vegas by not repsonding to the bell in the seventh round...

You can put a fork in him...
although I'm sure there are still a few countries outside of US that would pay to see him again...
but I think he's done in America.

You have few clues, I see.

I do.

A friend of mine lives down the street from him, and he visits her from time to time.

The man needs help. Boxing is over. Move on.
