There is the lottery for the papers to get into the US legally - but if you get them, you can't leave Cuba because Castro won't let you. Essentially, that ends the whole emigration/immigration thing from the Cuban legal point of view.

That said, the only laws the four with papers broke were Cuban emigration laws. They didn't break any US laws, and already had the legal papers to immigrate here. Their methods were a little unorthodox....

"But the communist government of President Fidel Castro refused to let the family leave, said attorney Wilfredo Allen."

Yes, I read 35. So, let them take over the government in Cuba before they INVADE the US.

I have another solution for you people that want illegals to enter our country. Let the US airlift 500,000 SkiDoos to Cuba with enough gas to go 150 miles each so they can get here. Would make a great James Bond movie.

Of course, you will pay for it. You want illegals? Lets do it the right way.

"John Robertson, how did your ancestors get into this country? Legally or illegally?"

We don't talk about that.

Hey, lighten up, we're as anti-illegal as you are...we just had a lighthearted reaction to their mode of illegality. It was a tossoff remark, no harm.

Some of us know how to laugh.

(Then you'll say it's not a funny subjet, not a laughing matter, then I'll say some people on FR just don't know how to find the humor in things and....)

I guess it's not funny if it's not illegal:

An attorney for Democracy Movement, a Cuban exile group in Miami, said Diaz and his family last year won the documents in an annual lottery in Cuba for legal travel to the United States. But the communist government of President Fidel Castro refused to let the family leave, said attorney Wilfredo Allen."

amend earlier response

Too funny. I love that old taxi, and I'm sorry it was sunk.

Wouldn't it be great to see the next group arrive in a floating stretch limousine?

"we just had a lighthearted reaction to their mode of illegality."

=====

Please don't fall for the UNTRUE claims by some who seem to hate ALL LEGAL and ILLEGAL aliens, making no distinction between them, claiming that they are ALL illegals, even when they got lawful permission to enter the US. Note, that NONE of us would be here, if we, our parents or ancestors hadn't immigrated. We are ALL decendents of immigrants.

FROM THE ARTICLE:

"will be allowed to stay in the United States because they have valid immigration documents

An attorney for Democracy Movement, a Cuban exile group in Miami, said Diaz and his family last year won the documents in an annual lottery in Cuba for legal travel to the United States. But the communist government of President Fidel Castro refused to let the family leave, said attorney Wilfredo Allen."

And the rest of them were sent back, unfortunately -- if they had made it to dry land on their own, they would be in the US LEGALLY, as per the Clinton version of the Cuban Adjustment Act.

I haven't heard that the Cuban Adjustment Act was illegal.

What Clinton did with it, should have been: the wet-foot, dry-foot policy, that if Cuban REFUGEES, get intercepted at sea, they are sent back, if they suceed in making it to US land, they get to stay.

In the meantime, people from Mexico just walk across by the thousands.

By not being able to understand "VALID IMMIGRATION DOCUMENTS", AGreatPer is actually hurting the cause of fight against illegal immigration, because even after I pointed out to him, that the four who were allowed to stay DID have legal standing, he continued to insist that they shouldn't have been allowed into the country, i.e. he is against ALL IMMIGRATION, legal and illegal, and claims that even legal immigration is illegal.

I don't see how this makes sense to anyone.

Thanks for clearing things up. Am in agreement with you.

BTW, have ordered a full-frontal lobotomy for AGreatPer, to help him understand. It's quite a distinction to have to make, I know: If you steal into the country illegally ...uh, you're illegal. If you have documented permission to enter...duh, you're legal.

Unfortunately could only locate three illegal Guatemalans to perform said procedure, but they're willing to do the jobs that Americans refuse to.

I've always though that. We need more people like them in the country.

I don't think they're Castro agents.
Communist thinking apparently doesn't
allow for much creativity.

I had a friend who used to be on a civilian
engineering team that was deployed whenever
a Russian or Chinese pilot defected with his
MIG. This team would go to reverse engineer
the craft.

He said, in the middle '80's, that the Russian
MIG's still had vacuum tube technology. He said
that was like having the world's best outdoor
toilet. Communist thinking at its optimum.
