Good morning, fellow political junkies. I'm starting the thread early, because I'll be out and about for much of the morning. Follow along, and comment here, as usual..
"Damn the liberals, full freep ahead"
Have to get a graphic for that one...tis the motto.
Yeah Team and Doc!
...the United States Senate just confirmed Janice Rogers Brown to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals!
The first African-American woman to serve on the California Supreme Court, Justice Brown truly embodies the American Dream.
Born in Greenville, Alabama as a daughter of sharecroppers, she attended segregated schools throughout her childhood.
She went on to earn her B.A. from California State in 1974, and her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 1977.
She has dedicated all but two years of her distinguished twenty-six year legal career to public service.
Justice Brown's confirmation is a blow to the partisan campaign of judicial obstruction that blocked a fair up or down vote for 10 nominees in the last Congress.
As they have done so against many other qualified nominees, Democrats leveled harsh, heated and, I believe, unfair criticisms of Justice Brown.
You may recall some of what was said in recent months:
"This woman is living on another planet, and we were right to stop her from getting on the bench."
"This is not the kind of judge who should be on the nation's second most powerful court."
She is among the "worst of the worst."
As with the recent confirmation of Priscilla Owen, today marks great progress.
Justice Brown's confirmation is in keeping with the principle of fair up or down votes for judicial nominees.
And we will continue to insist that principle--which stood for 214 years of Senate history--stands in this Congress.
It's been a long road, but today Janice Rogers Brown--a compassionate woman, accomplished lawyer and jurist--got the vote and the respect she deserves.
Stay tuned ... more such announcements to follow.
Bill Frist
" I have already issued my "mea culpas" to Senator First! He has my confidence, I am proud of our Majority Leader! "
I'm proud of Frist too~~!!
Iranian Alert - June 8, 2005 - BREAKING: Massive Unrest in Iran following Soccer Victor! HUGE!
Bill Frist just listed off a schedule of votes for the next few days, all on judges. Next week startiing work on the enrgy bill, will take all week and into the next week. The importatnt thing to note here is this: He did not mention a vote on Bolton That means that he does not have the votes to overcome the Dem filibuster on Bolton. This is REALLY GOOOD NEWS for US!
Not as good as the 80, but again note that even if the 7 democrats who signed the "agreement" went back to their previous cloture votes, enough other democrats, having been freed from their party loyalty oath, voted that we would have broken cloture.
So for all three of these nominees, there were enough democrats to end cloture, if the leadership hadn't held them in strict party-line vote. Conversely, the republicans released from their party-line vote still voted the same way, showing that we stood on principle against the filibuster, while the democrats were FORCED to go against their princple and vote FOR filibuster.
The democrats are still being held to party-line votes on the nominees themselves, and only a couple are leaving the reservation, mostly the same ones that actually left the reservation previously on cloture votes.
Does anyone have an e-mail address where we could send her congratulations?
Massive unrest following Iran soccer game-- hugh and series!
I saw that....monitoring as we speak
Oh, I understand how to count and analyze.
I specifically addressed the idea this was the result of phone calls said with a tone of progress heretofore unseen had taken place.
:)
Anybody who can suffer thru any soccer game should be at unrest!
The-Great-One-Mark-Levin is on radio now, reveling in the confirmation of JRB!
That's what they think. The Dems will get their moxie up, filibuster than get the nuke.
It is indeed a very good thing!
When the time comes, we'll win the cloture vote on any of them. Until then, let the little Linc Chaffee's have an "out" for as long as they need one.
That would be nice!
Also, whoever has this site says:
www.janicerogersbrown.com www.janicerogersbrown.com is free for Judge Janice Rogers Brown if she wants it... You have my respect and admiration.
Would be nice to be able to let her know that...
