Well, I did some back-of-the-envelope calculations the other day, and I believe that President Bush carried the white Anglo vote in at least 44 of the 50 states, with only Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont and maybe Washington State and Oregon getting away. Bush got a huge majority of the white Christian vote, which is by far the largest voting bloc in the U.S. and which explains how he won a solid majority nationwide. Of course, Bush also did rather well among Hispanics and Asians, and did better among Jewish and black voters than any Republican since Reagan, so Dean's prejudiced statement is underinclusive, but Dean is certainly correct that the GOP owns the white Christian vote lock, stock and barrel. The question is, how is Dean fixing to win Heartland states for the Democrats (as he claims he will do) if he concedes the white Christian vote to the GOP?
"white Anglo vote" is that as opposed to the
'black Anglo vote'
and the
'hispanic Anglo vote' ???
