That additional 3 to 8 days would mean that the police are subject to an evidentiary/investigatory requirement. Remember the old saying from the movies "round up the usual suspects?" Some nations have abandoned this type of policing. My guess is that the authorities had information which justified an initial detention of the two suspects. However, in order to keep them in custody, the authorities then had to provide testimony or evidence to a judge to justify holding them for a longer period of time while the investigation continues. We have similar procedures here in this country.

Seriously, thank you for the update. I suspected it was something like that but it is good to know what is actually going on.
