Did you see the pedestrian walking on the sidewalk across the street? He walked right behind the van, in a direct line with the CHP guys. With the recent history of police markmanship in CA I wouldn't get within a half mile.
There's actually a very tall thick concrete wall between the freeway and that side street. The guy on KTTV said he estimates it's about 15 feet high.
