Take away teachers long enough and there wont be nurses...doctors....fireman and as you put it "..policemane."
Oh, I don't know. It's true of nurses and doctors, certainly. However, any kid with something on the ball will still be able to find training to be a cop or a fireman. Volunteer fire companies train volunteers.
"But," you might say, "...you need to be able to read before you can be professionally trained."
Granted. But in the worst-case scenario you're talking about, where there simply aren't enough people to go around, parents who are paying attention will realize that they can't depend on teachers to provide instruction to the level of basic literacy, and will make up the difference themselves.
I'll even go out on a limb and say that anyone who can read at a high-school level (in other words, anyone who can read TIME magazine) can teach the typical child basic reading skills. Honestly, it's not rocket science.
A policemane is a lion cootie inspector. Didn't you know that????:)
