not anymore, just the opposite is true now. the meltdown in the tech industry is driving those displaced workers to math and science teaching. trust me, I know many of them.

And I know many brilliant scientists lured away by industry.

Still, it doesn't change the fact that these teachers earn their pay. Some teachers are probably as you characterize. Most aren't. My parents both teach, and they are wonderful.

This must explain my recent experience at a teacher job fair (a bigger waste of time than I could have imagined, but that's another story). Anyway, I was amazed that almost every other person I talked to was a MATH teacher! I thought we were short of math teachers, but for once I was glad I was not one, since they seemed to be a dime a dozen.
