A rather broad statement, don't you think?

No, I don't think so. If I did, I wouldn't have written it.

I was just on the phone with my cousin -- she has two sons, now grown, and I asked her if her sons went on senior/graduation trips similar to this one. She mentioned that her older son did take a cruise with his classmates to Greece and Italy right after his graduation. The trip, she said, was heavily chaperoned, and the chaperones were very stringent in enforcing certain rules with these kids, one of which was that the kids had to be in their cabins after a certain hour (10:00 or 11:00???? -- not sure) in the evening. The chaperones actually went around with the ship's security to check every cabin to be sure the kids were there. One boy violated the curfew twice. After the second violation, the chaperones booted the kid off the cruise and sent him home. The kid's parents were livid and threatened to sue. However, they, like my cousin and her husband, and the other parents, had signed a consent form essentially giving the chaperones the right to set rules and to enforce them, including sending home any kid who violated them. So I don't believe they were able to pursue any sort of claim or suit. But anyway, my cousin's son and his classmates generally had a good time and all of them came home safely.

Now in this case, I'm wondering what rules, if any, were the chaperones allowed to make (or maybe the school or someone else made the rules), and if so, whether the rules included a curfew for these youngsters, and if so, whether a similar consent or other legal document giving them the right to enforce the rules was signed by the parents.

I wonder if this was the one with the bloody mattress? No doubt he had a good reason for it, since everyone assures me that Aruba never has crime. (/sarcasm)

I don't recall anybody on this thread "assuring" you that "Aruba never has crime". Many people, however, have assured you that Aruba is an extremely safe place and NOT, as you insist, a "third world armpit". If you cannot reconcile the difference, that is your problem.

Any place on the planet is dangerous if you are at the wrong place at the wrong time and use bad judgement, but this crime, no matter how horrific, doesn't support your assertion. In fact, all the evidence shows you have no idea what you are talking about.

The blood on the mattress has been determined to be of animal origin. It's not human blood so she may be alive still.

They have test results already? Wow!

The news websites must be behind...all Fox says is that the mattress is being tested.

This has to be so difficult for the family. Talk about an emotional roller coaster.

I saw that on another thread. FR is always ahead of the lazystream media.

Thank God.

Our "third world" friend seems to have a problem with Aruba.

I wonder what that is? ;-)

An online newspaper, AM Digital, hosted at Aruba.com has reported that the three men involved in the Natalee Holloway disappearance claimed to have had sexual relations with the 18 year old Alabama high school senior at the beach prior to returning her to her hotel at approximate 2 AM. A pdf file of the publication is available on this page. Look for the AM Digital link at left.

I wish neutrino would be honest and say it's because it's a 'non-white' country. It's not even that anyway. It's very mixed and Dutch. Oh well...

Money does not a clean armpit make.

OK, so what, exactly, does make Aruba a "third world armpit"?

I just checked CNN and MSNBC's sites -- they don't have it either.

MSNBC however says that three cars were also seized and that forensic tests were being done on them as well. I don't believe I saw that in any of the other media reports.

Takes a while I guess to get the information on the news websites. I'm at work, so I don't have a tv or radio...have to rely on the websites and/or the Freepers.

Haiti is a third world country by the very definition of third world. Aruba is not. I know what that freeper means and it's no use debating. Some people just love to be ignorant.

It sounds like Aruba may be one of the seldom-mentioned "second-world" places; you know, maybe not all the latest modern stuff, but basically clean and civilized.

Two reasons there is an all-out search for Natalee:

1) Her family is wealthy;
2) She is an attractive white woman

Had Natalee been blaek or hispanic, we probably wouldn't be hearing about it in the news.

Sounds like Al Jazerra type of news to me. I don't believe that for one minute.
