Representative King, have you voted for the huge manpower increases that would be required for the military to perform this mission while also fighting the war on terror around the world?
I didn't think so.
To: BeHoldAPaleHorse
We could use the National Guard. Their mission should be changed back to what it once was.

OK, has Representative King voted for the huge manpower increases that would be required for the National Guard to perform this mission, and the massive amounts of money needed to call the National Guard into federal service indefinitely?

Have they had a vote on that?

It's too late. For different reasons, many people have made our borders exist only on maps.

Nice twist.. :-)
More funding of anything, anymore is just money in a black hole. They did vote for 20,000 more BP, but the President thwarted it.

Their mission should be changed back to what it once was.Should, could, would, whatever. The game has changed, and it won't be changed back.
As an Army vet, I'm against placing soldiers on the border because the Commander in Chief is the President. A change of the administration can easily remove our soldiers from there, and not even Congress could stop it.
What is needed is Border Patrol agent numbers vastly increased. Two thousand is a joke. That number probably could be increased to 12-15,000 easily. The only concern I have about that is the union of the BP getting far too powerful. But I'll still take those short-term problems to increase border security and to keep soldiers off that border.
After Clinton, I thought we had our fill of playing politics with our soldiers.

Rep King is very smart and politically astute it appears.

The Constitution says; Article I, Section 8, "The Congress shall have the power to....To provide for the calling forth the Militia to execute the laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and Repel Invasions;"
Since we are being invaded and the laws of the Union are being violated I agree that the Militia should be called up and placed on both the north and south borders to protect the laws and the American people.

Not necessarily. The message they're getting is that the Dems are going to use this as an issue if the Republicans don't get off their behinds and do something about it.

Actually, there isn't much point to putting anyone from govt. at the border, as they have their hands tied when there. Kolbe and his ilk, certin sector chiefs, and Homeland Security honchos have all created problems, lately, and it's not hard to see where that's going.
I know the dems would like the extra union voters, but it's pointless for any other reason.

There are plenty of troops in places that could be put on the border without a huge manpower increase. There's also the National Guard.
