The US and Russia, we scratch each other's back! How quaint.

Russia to conduct observation flight in America
WASHINGTON, July 7 (RIA Novosti, Arkady Orlov) - Russia will conduct its second observation flight this year over America and take photographs of U.S. territory within the framework of the Open Skies Treaty, a source in the U.S. State Department said.
"An unarmed Russian Tu-154, which has been certified under the agreement, will land on Monday July 11 at an international airport in Washington, D.C.," the press-service said.
From Washington the plane will take off for Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Ohio, where it will later start the observation flight.
The 4,900-kilometer flight will follow a course the Russian side chooses in advance.
"The Russian aircraft is equipped with optical cameras and the United States will later receive copies of the material taken during the mission," the department said.
According to the U.S. State Department, Russia has a right to take photographs anywhere in America along the selected course.
Russia will conduct the mission with Belarus. An accompanying group from the U.S. Department of the Defense will be on board the Tu-154 during the mission.
This observation flight will be Russia's fourth since the Open Skies Treaty came into force on January 1, 2002 and the second since the beginning of this year.
The USA has carried out 19 observation flights over Russia and Belarus.

Hmmm. Thanks for sharing that, Ian.
Makes me wonder if there is a little more to the story than we have been told. It seems like a good move, but a bit specific...
Already NY is learning some things from London.
WHY?

I wonder if DC is doing the same.
Some dumb stupid lamebrain Open Skies Treaty, I guess. Isn't it mindboggling? I wonder how much more rope we have left until we hang ourselves as Lenin said we would.
Put that with Exsoldier's story and we have a problem mission control...
Where was I reading just today that over 40,000 suicide bombers have been recruited for use on American soil???? Some terror organization made that announcement. If they can coordinate that kind of simultaneous strike all across the USA, it would make 911 look like a drop in the bucket.

All I can say is I hope we are reaping all we can out of that treaty because we know Russia probably will.
Shaking head in disbelief!

Another excellent post, as usual. I would give you a long response, but I am torn between about 300 different things with the hurricane, etc.
Too few people do understand, and then we have those who think it's bad to call it an insurgency... even though it is one. It's certainly not to say the men carrying out attacks are not terrorists, but more and more... the groups carrying out the attacks are acting on the same ideological lines, and hoping for the same strategic victories. The only true answer is to keep fighting until the insurgency is fully beaten. I just fear the American public will not be able to stomach that. Unfortunately, the end result if we don't is the end of America as we know it. The Jihadists would like nothing more than to fly the green banner of Islam from every corner of this country.
Here is a BUMP before my laptop battery dies.
Thanks, hope to see you join us for future conversation.
40,000 "Time Bombs" Recruited to Target Americans in Iraq
July 5, 2005

On July 2, 2005, Al-Arabiya TV broadcast a report on an Iranian movement of suicide bombers with the aim of targeting Americans in Iraq and Israel. The volunteers said they wanted to carry out martyrdom operations to liberate Islamic lands and stated that so far 40,000 "time bombs" have been recruited. To view this clip, visit:
http://www.memritv.org/Search.asp?ACT=S9&P1=736 .
According to the chairman and spokesman of The World Islamic Organization's Headquarters for Remembering the Shahids, Mohammad 'Ali Samedi, his organization began recruiting suicide bombers about a year and a half ago.(1) Since then, he has engaged in organizing conventions, registering volunteer suicide bombers online, and providing guidance and training for martyrdom operations.
The organization's supporters, and those participating in its activities, include public figures, such as veteran MP Mahdi Kuchak-Zadeh, from the prominent conservative party Coalition of Iran's Developers (Abadgoran) which backed Iranian President-Elect Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad and Revolutionary Guards officers such as General Salami, head of The Revolutionary Guards Headquarters for Strategic Operations.
As they did a year ago, spokesmen for the organization are trying to emphasize that it is not a government organization and does not have the support of the Iranian government. However, at the same time, they hint at help given to them by the government.(2)
Although Firooz Rajai, one of the leaders of the organization, stated that volunteers have not been sent to carry out missions, the London Arabic-language daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported in June 2004 that a group sent from Iran on a suicide mission to Iraq had apparently been apprehended and handed over to British forces in Iraq.(3)

I must say that I only think it is bad to call it an insurgency when the liberal left is doing it because we know why they do it and they are being purposely deceitful to the masses. Other than that, I don't really mind.
I agree. They want to equate it to what we saw in Vietnam, etc... but the motives and end goals here are entirely different. Ho Chi Min never tried to attack us at home. Nor was he inspired by a God that told him to kill all the infidels.
We have a thread on it already...
