I realize Ivan might have trouble growing citrus in large parts of the country but they can grow onions for cryin out loud.

I'll bet a dollar to a donut that most russian soldiers wished that their government equipped and supported them as much as we do our soldiers.

Huh? With IE6, it should work. Did it indicate you need a plug-in?

"the enlisted men were essentially their servants"

You don't expect us to believe that the glorious Soviet People's Republic of Animal Farm treated their enlisted men poorly, do you??? Lying capitalist-imperialist swine! The USSR and all of its sister states displayed the highest evolution of perfect human equality and liberation, and any suggestion otherwise is mere counter-revolutionary propaganda....

Classic coups maybe but the February revolution of 1917 certainly had the backing of the Czar's military units.

You can say that again. First, all our secrets are sold to or stolen by the Chinese and now we invite the Russkies into our latest weapons and systems? Idiots!

The really interesting thing though, is that the excersize is two-way deal, the US soldiers are training on Russian equipment too - and I've heard some of them on TV speaking highly about Russian equipment and tactics :-) . So, someone is missing the point here, I guess.

A few years ago there was a documentary showing the Blue Angels doing a show in Moscow. Same deal, the pilots flew with each other in Su27s and F18s.

Imagine if someone like Putin went off his rocker and started a conventional war with the US. Would these troops, having met US soldiers and establish a rapport, fight harder or less enthusiastically?

Remember the short Christmas Truce in WWI. The troops on both sides had to be replaced because they wouldn't resume killing each other.
