It is well-documented that Nixon over-ruled the foot-dragging by his Secretary of State (Kissinger) and his Secretary of Defence (Schlessinger) when he told them to cut the stalling and send Israel "everything that flies." See Len Garment's autobiography, Crazy Rhythm, Charles Krauthammer's syndicated columns, even The Conspiracy Against The Jews, which is not otherwise kind to any in the U.S. Administrations over the years, especially Kissinger, but which clearly singles out Nixon for praise in connection with the Yom Kippur airlift via the Canary Islands.
