Nixon was guilty of crude anti-semitic remarks, among many other things.
He also appointed more Jews to top offices than any previous President.
Much more importantly, he very literally saved Israel from annihilation during the early days of Yom Kippur War. At the time, most Dems would have let Israel go. George McGovern had campaigned very explicitly on a no help to Israel platform.
Nixon has never got the credit he deserves for this.

Nixon disliked Jews in the abstract as a group stereotype, but was willing to deal with them when it served his interests, and with personal contact, came to trust some, and become friends with a least one, Leonard Garment (or some name close to that). Frankly, Nixon didn't like people much in general. He was deeply introverted, a highly unusual characteristic in a politician, but there you have it.

Before you nominate Nixon for sainthood, let's remember that prior to "saving Israel" the American government followed a policy of letting Israel bleed in the early days of the war and delaying any shipment of arms.
