What about Henry Kissinger? He and Nixon worked closely and Nixon clearly trusted him. And he supported the nation of Israel, crucial support at time when they were under attack from a lot of outside enemies, encouraging a friendship between our nations. Those comments seem like just 'locker' talk and inappropriate at that. Nixon had his flaws but it doesn't seem that anti-Semitism was truly among them.
Cheap shots, based on private conversations, are not appreciated by knowledgeable Jews. Charles Krauthammer, one of Israel's most ardent supporters in this country, has written eloquently and favourably about Nixon in discussing the subjects of Nixon, Jews and the White House Tapes in his syndicated columns. Just for the record, Haldeman did not say "Jewish". In the best rendering, he said, as best as can be deciphered, "...looks Jewish."
Haldeman's lawyers at the time of Watergate were virulently antiSemitic. On the other hand, Nixon's counsel, following John Dean, was a Jew, Len Garment, who knew Nixon at close range for many years. Garment's comments about Nixon's views of Jews and Israel [in full knowledge of what is said on the White House tapes about Jews] -- as described in his autobiography Crazy Rhythm -- are very flattering to Nixon. Garment found Nixon's attitude to Jews "better than most".
It is W. Mark Felt who is 'on trial' now, and I'll illustrate what I mean.
In relation to the Gipper having once said, in Bedtime For Bonzo, "I'm going to teach this monkey the difference between right and wrong", I think it is time for him to return and teach monkeys like Woodward, Redford, Clinton, Hal Holbrook, and their ilk, that their claims that Mark Felt did nothing illegal, ought to be seen in the following reflecting mirror.
I came across this nugget on page 225 of Felt's book The FBI Pyramid. Here, our 'noble hero' describes how [in the light of his confession that he is Deep Throat] he had flatly, deliberately and malevolently lied to his superior, the acting FBI Director, Patrick Gray, about his having never leaked anything to anybody, including Woodward and Bernstein.
I QUOTE FROM FELT'S 1979 BOOK:
Shortly after he returned from sick leave [January, 1973], Gray confided to me, "You know, Mark, Dick Kleindienst told me that I might have to get rid of you. He says White House staff members are convinced that you are the FBI source of leaks to Woodward and Bernstein" -- the Washington Post reporters who were writing up the Watergate story almost as fast as it was being investigated.
I said, "Pat, I haven't leaked anything to anybody. They are wrong!"
"I believe you," Gray answered, "but the White House doesn't. Kleindienst has told me on three or four occasions to get rid of you but I refused. He didn't say this came from higher up but I am convinced that it did."
This disclosure came as an unpleasant surprise. My contacts with Kleindienst had been frequent and friendly -- there had never been the slightest indication that I was suspect. I could feel anger rising in me but I was very apppreciative of Gray's indication of support. Gray went on: "I told Kleindienst that you've worked with me in a very competent manner and I'm convinced that you are completely loyal. I told him I was not going to move you out. Kleindienst told me,'Pat, I love you for that.'"
I don't know if Gray and Kleindienst are alive, but if they are, they must be very aggrieved individuals. What I cannot understand is why W's Administration is not moving to prosecute Felt or those, most prominently Woodward, Bernstein and Bradley, who obstructed justice by protecting a 2IC at the FBI who broke the law, betrayed the organization to which he swore allegiance, was likely motivated by a sense of being passed over for the top job, was later indicted for arranging illegal breakins, then flatly lied for more than three decades about almost everything he did during the Nixon Administration. Is it possible that Woodward's White House visit to-day was an attempt to buy some capital for himself in this connection?
This is hilarious of the press to keep running with this. Especially, when they ignored the Clinton's "F'n Jew *astard" remarks. Henry Kissinger didn't seem to be too upset about it when Chrissie Matthews had him listen to it and tried to get him to be aghast. He wasn't which really puzzled Chrissie-Poo.
I might be wrong, but just now, on the Larry King rerun, the transcript seemed to say...
The question becomes... Was Nixon surprised at Felt's position within the FBI because Nixon thought Hoover was an anti-Semite?
Oy.
Mark Felt sure sounds like a Jewish name. Now I see my suspicion is confirmed, that he's a member of the tribe. Same as me.
I'm thinking that all the Nixon anti-semite talk (certainly not good, if true) is just a screen to detract from the real issue of Deep Throat and his leaks and their possible criminal repercussions. How else will the left and leftie media be able to hold Felt up has a 'hero' if we point out his potential errors and crimes? So, hurry, smear the dead man.
last night on Larry King, it was stated Felts was raised and from Idaho Falls, Idaho, and he was not jewish but was a non-demoniationa.
The intereview on King was very good,
