"Bringing her into a hospice for the performance of this sustaining mission was another excellent clinical decision."

Your pedantic and verbose posting makes it clear that medical science, especially neurology and bioethics, failed Terri Schindler (and all of us) as much as did her faithless husband, and the bumbling, conflicted, and incompetent courts and other officials, of Florida.

Best regards,

I think the courts failed Teri. In my mind her spouse should have been irrelevant. I didn't fail her, though you're welcome to make the case, nor did Dr. McHugh.

You might consider reading the article before yapping about pedantic and verbose postings.

The doctor's right about hospice in concept past. Likely, if still in practise, he has to keep on the good side to admission directors in a number of hospices. One of my sisters is admission director for a internationally known rehab center, I've seen some little of how that works via her. She gets the keepers, however. The ones beyond repair go to the hospices.

The doctor is also right --- but so damn passive, imo -- about what the Schindler-Schiavo case and the hospice's care there meant. It means that no longer do hospices have to care tenderly (while treating symptoms only, not curing, just alleviating discomfort) for their charges while waiting for the nigh-certain death.

A new modality: agressively accelerating death and not so tenderly either. No chipped ice. Pull the bladder tube along with the feeding tube. Welcome the speed of self-poisoning, drying and cracking under dehydration and damn any though of pain and discomfort so caused. Full speed ahead. Turn thouse beds over! Next!

Arbeit Macht Frei!

And free is the author to turn his head back to his works. A passing comment as to the smoke from the smokestacks and back to the styes to throw out the afternoon slop.
