Nixon was a good friend to Israel, and indeed elevated Kissenger.

This article addresses only the notion that Nixon may have erroneously thought thst Felt was Jewish, as on the tape being widely reported.

The only point that I was making was that such statements are well-recorded on the Nixon tapes. It's rare that anyone has to speculate regarding what Nixon thought about something or other.

As for the comments of their own accord: Nixon lived in the real world. In the real world, it would've been surprising in the early 70s for a Jewish person to have risen through the ranks into the #2 position at the FBI.

What's the big deal?

Yes, Nixon was a good friend to Israel. Golda Meir in her autobiography, "My Life" (1975) went out of her way to say kind things about Nixon, even though that was really un-PC in the Watergate aftermath.

She wrote about watching the first big U.S. transports land in Israel with equipment & supplies during the darkest days of the Yom Kippur War. She wrote about the exceptional kindness she received from the Nixons while visiting the White House.

And she could joke with Nixon, which was not an easy feat for many others.. Once when she met with President Nixon, he told her that he would trade any three American generals for General Moshe Dayan. “Okay,” she said, “I’ll take General Motors, General Electric, and General Dynamics.” Nixon laughed out loud at her wit, and they always had a good relationship.
