Hospitals can't turn away emergency room people as per federal law. That is why many of these people use the emergency as primary care. Why you do think these places are closing? We just had a huge hospital in Port Chester close because of all of the illegals who refused to pay the bills.
Actually, they CAN and DO turn away people. You are correct in stating that they cannot turn away life threatening admissions. However, they are free to turn away any situation not considered life threatening. There was a thread on FR not long ago about some hospital in MS (Hattiesburg, Yazoo City???) that made the policy official that anyone not life threatening would be denied admission to the ER. Duke Hospital here in NC has the same policy, as does Wake Forest Hospital.

More hospitals should do this.

Good lord. ERs do NOT TURN THEM AWAY. I have first hand knowledge of this. The ER here issues frigging Psuedophedrine cause people come in with runny noses.

However, they are free to turn away any situation not considered life threatening. Do you see the problem with this? How about a child with a broken arm? A child with a bad burn?
To keep from "insulting our neighbors" we are destroying access to emergency services to the legal citizens of this country who paid for the hospital.
Illegal immigrants have a NET NEGATIVE economic impact on this country. They may work for $5 less an hour than a legal american citizen, but is that worth the cost of educating their children and the cost of providing their whole family health care? How about the cost of incarceration?
No other country allows unlimited immigration and with good reason. By your logic, borders really don't exist.
