Yikes. It was a comparision of the symbolism between "treasures on earth" vs. "treasures in heaven".

The problem is that the symbolism has been used for centuries to belittle Jews. A principle of good hermeneutics says that you must always start with face value. The danger with drawing too heavily upon symbolic interpretations is that one can make up any meaning.

Read Justin Martyr's "Letter to Trypho" (c.120 CE) and you will see what I mean. In that, this noted "church father" claims that the 'Old Testament' is merely a picture of the wickedness of Jews, and that the very things that make them distinct are in fact G-d punishment upon them. Luther made similar atrocious statements. This satanic 'theology' infects many of us, so that even our terminology and our idioms reflect our subtle disregard for G-d's chosen people. Like CyberAnt's use of "born again" in relationship to the 'Old Testament'. What kind of anachronistic tripe is that? Where was it ever commanded to "raise your hand", "walk an aisle", or "make a public confession" to "get saved" in the 'New Testament' much less the 'Old Testament'?

Let's be clear: SOME of the sons of Israel rebelled. Nationally, they were rebuked. Nationally, they were partially restored after the Babylonian captivity. Nationally, they will yet be restored completely...

That is, unless the Torah and the Prophets are just symbols to you...

I do not share the theology you describe.

It was a word study. I hadn't made any distinction between Jew or Gentile, neither was any intended. Come to think of it though, these types of subjects (arks, temples, relics of a Biblical nature) seem to attract more Christians than anyone else.
