Not quite: "damit" means "with that." :-)
So the sentence means, "And of course that also makes it clear that I'm a German."
Actually it's:
"And with that (i.e. my preceding remarks, in which I mentioned Horst Koehler as "my president") it is of course obvious that I'm German."
