Remember the 737 that crashed at Charlotte in 96? The cockpit recorder conversations prior to the downburst were mostly over barbeque sauces between the pilot and co-pilot. Remember the Eastern Air Lines jet that crashed at Charlotte in 1974. The pilot's last words were, "Well, there's Carowinds [amusement park]. Now, if we can only find the airport ..."
Carowinds is inside the outer marker for cryin outloud! You've got 35L 35R (or 3-somethin). The Nation's Bank Tower to the east and Lake Wylie to the west.
I don't really know much about that accident, as it was three years shy of my first solo.
