Goodness... Mouw's backstab is the stab that keeps on stabbing, isn't it? What a moron. And from Fuller -- who could have guessed that? (Okay, besides "anybody with half a brain"?)
I'll just say I'd rather not be forced to choose between two non-Christians. If that's what it comes down to, I'll have to fire up the brain-cells again... always a painful experience.
Otherwise, I'll blog my thoughts on this.
I would vote Libertarian - for the first time in my life - before I would vote for a candidate who is Mormon.
WOW, I can't believe you posted the whole thing! I was coming to do the same. A very interesting article. I like him so far, actually I've liked Romney since my disgusting co-relgionists the Kennedy's picked on him for his religion. Like they respect or obey their own!
"... some co-religionists say it doesn't begin until implantation occurs, because "there's no soul" until then." I would like for these 'co-religionists' to show to me proof of their assertion. If they cannot prove this assertion then as 'believers' they ought err on the side of LIFE and not open embryo-aged humans to exploitation and dissection for their body parts, their stem cells. Orrin Hatchling is an excellent case in point ... he's pro-life up to the point of a certain age in a lifetime already begun, that age being the embryonic life/age.
Bump for later reading.
Harry Reid, the MINO (Mormon In Name Only) would defend Mitt Romney?! LOL!!!!
The Gov of Missouri issued an extermination order against Mormons at one point and while overt violence against Mormons has ceased, many harbor a deep hatred. It would be a miracle indeed if Romney were able to overcome it all.
It is amazing how much misinformation and misunderstanding there is floating around about Mormons. For example, Mormons are considered to be non Christians. In reality, Jesus Christ is our Savior, Redeemer, Lord, Master, and we even refer to Him as "Jehovah". Go figure.
Eastland's got that right. A church that defines killing a defenseless pre-born baby on the grounds of "health" is so roomy you can drive a few million trucks thru. That is, BTW, the exact same definition as Doe vs. Bolton, the companion case to Roe v. Wade. That means that other than the contrived trimester system of Roe, which is negated by the "health" exception of Doe, there really isn't any difference between the 1973 Supreme Court and the Mormon church on abortion...except that LDS believe there are spirit babes in heaven awaiting bodies to inhabit.
The LDS, a denomination like any other?
Here's a denomination that baptizes dead people by proxy. It believes godhood awaits them. It has embraced seer stones. Former BYU prof wrote a book entitled "Early Mormonism and the Magic World View" in which chapter discusses divining rods, treasure-digging, and seer stones. Chapter 4 has a section on "The Smith Family's Magic Parchments" along with another section, "Kinship, Folk Magic, Occult Mentors, and Early Mormons."
And this is a "denomination like any other?"
"There are probably some states where the people would say, 'Hey, we are going to elect you as governor and we don't care if you do something else full-time for two years.' But Massachusetts isn't one of those states ..."
But that the same could be said of its Senators ;)
I don't think a person's religion - unless perhaps they are ISLAMIC, is an issue anymore in America.
Orrin Hatch - forget it. Better yet - forget him. He's a maby-pamby Caspar Milquetoast whimp.
Romney - don't know much about him. His father was a Class A-1 RINO before that term was fashionable though.
People who are Mormons seem to be decent people. The religion appears to produce character and respect in its followers.
Having said that, I find it a little "spooky" in some of its tenets.
Like Joseph Smith, an illiterate backwoodsman finding tablets in gold written in a language only he could decipher. Furthermore, he read them while they were wrapped up in cloth using some kind of special crystal. The there was that matter of Mountain Meadows, and polygamy. And that statement by one of their founders that he was a modern day Mohammad. And the matter of the Mormon "War". And the Book of Mormon itself - it reads like science fiction. And that idea that they can "save" people by getting information on their geneology.
I know, I know, Mormons will say that Christianity and Judaism have some peculiar and paranormal events in it too.
But somehow, I find the ten plagues on Egypt and the tower of fire and smoke and the resurrection of Christ from the dead more buyable than some guy named Joseph Smith talking to an angel named Moroni (Moroni - isn't that somekind of macaroni??) in upstate New York in the early 1800's about a bunch of pre-Columbian people for whom there is absolutely no archeological evidence - none - nada - nichts.
does anyone know where the guy stands on border issues and constitutional rights (specifically 2d ammendment?)
