Is this the "IT" model; or, the future of all technological and professional services in the US?

We are being reduced to a nation of cash register operators.

it's cyclical.
1. cash gets tight, management looks at bottom line and nothing else, outsouces. most everyplace i've ever worked IT is considered overhead - which is why we wind up with desks in closets or in the subbasement next to the furnace.
2. early on, it becomes rapidly appearant the level of service isnt gonna cut but their stuck with a support contract with outfit that just cant deliver, resolve issues in a timely fashion the way onsite IT can.
3. outsourced contract expires, IT goes back inhouse. and there is much rejoicing with the userbase
4. enter new top level management guy, the cycle begins anew.

This is what SHOULD happen to corporate IT.

Unless you can buy all your IT needs off the shelf and hook them up easily, the suppliers of these technologies won't be able to penetrate the middle sized enterprise market. It is inevtable that ASPs and services are gong to do 95% of what every business needs to operate because these technology providers want the beggest market possible.

Large enterprises buy everything else off-the-shelf: They don't have their office furniture custom made. All this in-house technology development is wasteful and the ROI is not there.

In todays global economy with free trade, we simply dont need or want american workers in jobs that can be done more cheaply offshore.

Any job that "CAN" be outsourced, "WILL" be outsourced.

Instead of American workers being employed in the old outdated jobs that anyone can do like IT, computer programming, software developement, engineering, research, lab studies, durg testing, oil refining, steel, mining, ship building, aircraft building, factory work, manufacturing, accounting, law firm legal research, radiologists, medical transcriptioning, financial analysis, call centers, billing, collections, etc, they all should retrain to take jobs in higher paying 21st century jobs where the United States has an advantage.
