"O Neg" is universal, but if you have O Neg blood type you can not recive any other type.
I wouldn't give one thin dime to the Red Cross, much less a drop of our precious "O Neg" blood.
I wonder how much of this blood shortage is due to gang violence?

I don't get it. Explain why not, and "our precious". I'm not following that.
I donated (I'm O-) about 5 weeks ago. What do you find wrong with that?
No one is asking u to give to the ARC, but please give somewhere. O neg is the choice for newborn transfusion, traumatic blood loss in emergencies. It has no A antibodies and no B antibodies- So every blood type can safely receive it. However, an O Neg newborn can only receive O neg even after a type and crossmatch. Think about that because you are O Neg. If you experienced blood loss due to an accident, you would be counting on that O neg donor.
It requires no type and cross, when you cannot hear a blood pressure to due to voluminous blood loss- O neg is first on the scene. Somewhere a baby will need O neg, or someone's wife, husband or mother.
Whatever you do not like about the ARC is cool with me, I just work to save lives. Just give somewhere- not a plasma center though- those are traditionally wasting precious O Neg on diagnostic plasma.
