In case anyone didn't read the "Letters to the Editor" in today's NY Times, I want to let you know that the Democrats are beside themselves over the "deal." Despite the bluster of Reid, the deal was no win for Democrats. We should stop going after the 7 Republicans who participated in crafting the deal. They delivered the 3 most controversial nominnees, Owen included, and protected the party from horrible ad attacks in 2006. That's the most important part of the deal. No distractions next year as we fight to keep and expand our majority.

I digress.
Talking points for the 2006 elections is not the most important part of the deal.

Good point..the Dems will, I believe, end up screwing this up and shooting themselves in the foot with this compromise..Remember, they screwed the pooch with the Wellstone Memorial..their overt political display may well have cost them a few Senate seats..

The first remains to be seen (the floor votes have yet to happen, and given the fact the 7 Dwarves like secret deals, their passages are not certain anymore); and those attack ads would still run even if nothing to the right of David Souter comes before the Senate from here on out.
