With the nuclear option ( and yes, there WERE enough votes to pass it, prior to the "compromise" ! ), we would have been able to get an up or down vote on ALL of the stalled judicial nominations.

I'm sure you were the official vote counter. Both sides claimed victory. If one was assured, then Frist would have gone ahead. The "agreement" was between 14 Senators. Don't recall Frist being one of them. Since 7 Republicans voted for the compromise, and there are 55, which of the 7 absolutely without equivocation would have voted for the constitutional option?

You have NO proof that the three WILL be confirmed. The ONLY thing guaranteed, is an up or down vote on them.

And you have proof that they would have been confirmed with the constitutional option invoked? I thought this whole thing was about an up or down vote, or did I miss my reading assignment for today?

And as far as the Dems' promise, all I can say, is : YOU FELL FOR THAT CRAP ? Anyone and everyone of the president's nominations, from here on out, AS THEY WERE BEFORE THE DAMNED COMPROMISE, will be called EXTREME EXTREMISTS/EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES !

And if so, then there is no compromise and Frist invokes the constitutional option, in which case now the 7 wavering Republicans will likely vote for it rather than their almost sure vote against it before.

You're wearing rose colored glasses, blowing smoke, making excuses , spinning, and are damned, dead wrong in spades!

And you, sir, are a complete bloviating fool. Your shameless invectives in place of reasoned discussion serves merely to make you appear more a fugitive from DU than a Freeper engaging in a deductive defense of his position. Are you simply more comfortable with a litany of dittos to your conclusions? Don't be afraid of hearing a contradictory statement to your well thought out position. Be afraid when extremists attempt to shut down the debate with a handful of insults.

Nope, I'm not the "official vote counter"; however, Frist, after having threatened the "nuclear option" for month after month, since last fall, was about to pull the trigger, at long last, YESTERDAY. And then, and then, and then.........the GANG OF 14 pulled their coup de tat.

McCaine and the Dems were working sub rosa. Evidently many of that 14 had lied through their teeth to Frist. LIEberman was supposedly on board and there was at least 1 more Dem, who would have voted WITH Frist and the GOPers.

There is NO "proof" at all that any nominee, had the nuclear option been put into motion, won the vote. I never claimed that, unlike YOU, who has claimed that ALL THREE ON THE TABLE NOMINEES will win. Where is YOUR proof for saying that? It most assuredly is NOT in the compromise.

There is absolutely NO assurance, whatsoever, from any of the 14, that they will separately or together, follow, to the letter, what the compromise states. And since it appears that you not only trust the gang of 7, but believe deep in the recesses of your heart, that they will call for the nuclear option, if and when a single Dem counters the "agreement", then, I pity you.

The wind has been completely taken away from Frist's sails. He might call for the nuclear option, with cause; however, getting it passed now, is far from a certainty. It probably will fail. And THAT hands the Dems and the craven GOP gang of 7 another VICTORY.

As to "bloviating", I don't, you do, and FYI... I AM NOT A "SIR".

I was taught vote counting by the best, I don't wear rose colored glasses, and my grasp of reality is far better than yours.
