That sounds like the Buchanon I know. There was an earlier reply where the idiot was making sense again, and I hate when his rational side resurfaces making him seem sane.

Sure, Buke, Frist and Bush wanted to be stabbed in the back with a knife. They are masochists, they receive a thrill from defeat. Pat just shut the hell up! You are no more welcome in the Republican Party than John McCain! At least you left, McCain refuses to take the hint and get out.

LOL!! Matthews thinks we, the base, give a DAMN what they say? Ah, how cute. the MSM is seeking to revive the Traitorous seven with the very people that have turned a deaf ear to them. Good luck with that Chrissy! You may control the RINO's but you DON'T control the conservative base!

I think ultimately, if Frist is to be believed and really expected to bring ALL nominees in for an up or down vote, that the deal will fall apart.

And that is where the trouble will begin, for Republicans, imo.

We have never argued our case (as we discussed today) forcefully or well. Because the Democrats still have the ability under the Memorandum of Agreement to filibuster in extreme cases, they will do so for nominees who weren't specifically named in the agreement.

But we didn't carve out similar language for ourselves regarding instituting the Constitutional Option. So if or when it comes to that, I think the Democrats will successfully (with the media's help) paint Republicans as the rule breakers.

We SHOULD have carved out language that we could STILL go to the Constitutional Option if the Democrats didn't operate in good faith.

It's a small point and perhaps I'm over-stating it, but it's my pretty firm belief that when the deal falls apart, we'll look like the bad guys.

We're too busy comparing where we are now with where we would have been today,

We don't know if the rats would have accepted cloture on these 3 and thereby still maintain the fillibuster. We also don't know if Frist had the 50 votes.

Today we still have the threat, we have an agreement by more moderate rats to refrain and we have 3 guaranteed. I'd say we are better off today than we could have been.

Politicians and the media have a strange way of twisting reality and in the end they may try to place McCain is a positive light because, if the dem's break the agreement by threatening a filibuster over a lesser nominee than those that are about to go through then they can say it was this broken agreement/olive branch by Republicans that opened the flood gates for all Bush appointments and the nuclear option and putting the dem's in serious retreat.

I don't like McCain and haven't for a long time and no matter what happens many will not forgive him either way, his goose is cooked for any presidential primary regardless of the media spin. The votes are what matters and he lost them before this, its just that this was the last straw for the diehard supporters.

McCain has always played both sides of the fence and not fully committing to the Republican party has made him a media darling and accepted within the Washington beltway crowd. His real reasons may be to get back at Bush for 2000 and in the end he may end up helping him bush in spite of his own desires.

Actually Buchanon was furious with McCain, before saying, while kind of laughing - that maybe Frist was in on the deal. I should have included that part in my post.

You're so right! Matthews can fall all over McCain, but it doesn't change McCain's RINO spots.

Did you see what I posted about John Kerry signing the #180 form?

Yes, no, and they should have done. He isn't "worse" than HITLERY; but, pretty close to being as bad as she is.

It is significant that the signers give up using the filibuster as it was deployed in the last Congress in the last 2 years

Only if you believe the 7 Dims won't bail out using the "extraordinary circumstances" provision. They don't even all have to bail, as long as part II B (No rules changes for the 106th Congress) holds. In fact none of them have to bail, the other 38 Dims (and the Dim lite) are enough to prevent cloture of a filibuster as long as the rules are not changed. And the 7 RINOs are enough to prevent that from happening.

Rather than finding out about "trust", I think we just found out what the meaning of "is" is.

when your husband or boyfriend says something stupid ("those pants make your butt look huge!") and in an attempt to explain themselves and they just end up in a deeper heap of trouble then if they had just apologized and tried to make amends.

Better your boyfriend or husband than the lady in the next cubical, don't you think? Poor guy was just trying to save you the social embarrassment. (Assuming of course the statement was accurate, no matter how crudely put). My wife says equivalent things about lots of my clothes.

Ah, thanks for clarification. Since Buchanon usually takes cheap shots it sounded as though he was reverting to form. LOL

Exactly. The MSM doesn't tell us how to vote, and we aren't supporting the Dwarves.

I'm listening to Hewitt. Taking the exact line I am. I'll support REAL conservatives individually but not a dime to the RNC because I refuse to let my money go to the seven.

I support Senator Frist and Senator DeLay. I would love to know what is really being said within the closest of Republican circles right now. I want to know if they're playing possum.

"I look FORWARD to slamming down that ballot with a vote against the maverick."

Too bad they can't stick a ballot box under a basketball hoop, we could have some real fun with that thought!! lol

Didn't seem so stupid when the Republicans used it though, did it?

YES it did.

The issue was the downside to the agreement. Please tell me what downside exists that did not pre-date the agreement.

It is that we will have a much harder time, now, after this agreement, in getting all our judges, than we would have had, if no agreement existed.
