"I dont mean to have deck of cards, but just to keep score like we did with the deck of cards. Or like FLengineer I think kept score."

We have lots of folks around here who are good at that kind of stuff. Post early on tomorrows thread and ask for volunteers...most of the east coast people have signed off for today. Maybe Cboldt would have some suggestions.

You're correct. I believe that if the rats filibuster it would only take two of the slimy seven pubs to break the agreement and the nuclear option would move forward again.

I posted early that Rush called Frist's office and they told Rush's people that all nominee's were to get up or down votes. Know one is crossed off the list.

I think this is more of a cease fire than defeat after mauling it over. By letting those who the rats called the most extreme move forward for a vote and promising to allow them through, it has raised the bar a lot higher for a nominee to be considered extreme and justification for any filibuster.

In the end, we may win this war by attrition by always holding the nuclear option over the rats heads like a hammer waiting to crush their skulls.

As soon as the rats begin to filibuster or crow about it, they will break the 14 moderates and the agreement.

ROFLMAO - Makes you wonder if it had anything to do with the thread on here asking everyone to use johnkerry.com to send Frist a e-mail asking Kerry to sign it.

* I've even seen diehard McCain apologists toss him overboard this week. Mccain made enemies that will enjoy frying him alive in the '08 primaries. *

I'm watching Hardball and Matthews literally thinks McCain is the WINNER in this deal. *&^%^$%$**&%%$$(*^

Buchanan just said Frist may have approved of what the 7 RINO's did. Maybe Bush is in on this too??? The one thing I think I know - IS McCain is NOT the winner. Matthews is day dreaming. Matthews just said McCain is NOT a moderate. LOL LOL LOL

Graham is going down!

Graham should be going down. Anytime a Senator gets up on TV and says he doesn't care what his base wants, he will do what he wants--time for him to go down.

What can I say Ken, unlike you I never started a thread. Since no one had done so this morning (shocking), I did.
Nice to see you.

Although I do have to wonder if McCain and Graham had worked as hard to convince their own party to vote for various nominees as they worked for the compromise, perhaps things would have been different.

I agree that both are suspect, even if this agreement turns out positive.

Good point. I think that's where the "good faith" clause of the agreement is tested. If any of the 7 Dems vote no on cloture without an explanation as to why the nominee is "worse" than Brown or the other 2, then McCain and company will have to force the issue to a consitututional vote if they disagree. At that point the agreement falls apart, and we are right back where we were, except that Frist would almost certainly call for the critical vote.

You were much more calm about the entire compromise than I was at lunch :-) And time may well prove that your analysis was more seasoned, but at this point, I still have grave concerns that we have ceded control to the Democrats when we didn't need to.

That's the point many are making here, and I am probably too optimistic (or obtuse) to recognize it. Seems to me the Dems are under all the pressure at this point.

Imagine a Democatic president and Senate. Imagine them signing this agreement which tells the Democratic president he has to confer with a minority Republican Senate before making nominations. Are you laughing hysterically yet? LOL

Interesting thought. The last rules change was instituted by Democrats, dropping the cloture vote to 60 in response to Republican filibuster use. Hopefully I won't see a Dem president and Senate for a long while.

Keep the faith. The "swing" senators on both sides of the isle who were under little to no pressure before are under a lot now.

But a filibuster can be ended by calling for cloture (what happened today on Owen) and in the event another dem calls a filibuster, these 7 have agreed to vote for cloture

They only aggreed to do that for the Owens, Brown and Pryor. For Saad and Myers they committed to nothing. For any others they get to use their own judgement on "extraordinary circumstances", and they can do that without breaking the agreement. However the signatories also agreed, without such any such condition, to oppose rule changes for the rest of the 109th Congress. So if the 7 RINOs, or any of them, vote for a rule change, the Dims can legitimately claim it was the Republicans who broke the agreement. Nice huh?
